Go for Green…Sustainable Buildings
Jawl Properties in partnership with the Shared Services BC and BC Hydro, has reviewed 14 of its buildings for energy use, waste management, water use and other environmental factors. Changes have been implemented in these buildings to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions, the Carbon Footprint of the buildings and the resulting operating costs. As a member of BOMA, Jawl Properties is pleased to have BOMA BESt certification for each building.
To further support the physical upgrades to the buildings, tenants have committed to ongoing energy, water, waste and transportation sustainability reduction measures and continue to optimize the savings in Greenhouse Gas emissions. For 2009 Jawl Properties buildings reduced their Greenhouse Gas emissions by approximately 206 tonnes. In 2010 this reduction grew to 212 tonnes of GHG’s. With continued efforts and attention to energy savings Jawl Properties expects to reduce natural gas consumption by 37%, electrical consumption by 21% and Greenhouse Gas emissions by 30%. Water savings in 2010 resulted in a 34.2% decrease (30,400 cubic metres) in water used.
In keeping with the commitment to ongoing energy savings, Jawl Properties has begun monitoring individual buildings for real-time energy use. To view this up-to-the-minute data please click on View Live Energy Use
Jawl Properties is committed to and supports tenants in the promotion of sustainable and environmentally responsible business practices. As part of that commitment, Sustainable Resources can be found on this website which provide excellent information available to help reduce energy consumption, water use, and landfill-bound waste and manage transportation in a more environmentally-friendly way.
